Emergent Medical Associates Data Incident – Class Action Investigation

Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Emergent Medical Associates (EMA) based upon reports of a recently announced data breach.

Per recent reports, the notorious Everest ransomware group posted Pacific HealthWorks and its sister company La Perouse–two west coast healthcare management service organizations (MSO)–on its dark victim blog. Per Everest, “[b]illing data, as well as personal data of more than 50 organizations, will be published if the company does not contact us using the contacts below,” Everest claimed in a clear ransom threat and demand.

EMA is reportedly a client or customer of Pacific HealthWorks and public reporting indicates that EMA may have been been involved in or had its data implicated in the Pacific HealthWorks breach.

Public reports indicate that data samples from the Pacific HealthWorks breach have confirmed the inclusion of patient and employee information, such as:

  • names
  • birthdates
  • Social Security numbers
  • addresses
  • phone numbers
  • insurance records
  • medical and billing records
  • other demographic information

Pacific HealthWorks’ and EMA’s reported failure to protect sensitive information may violate consumer protection and privacy laws.

If you are a current or former patient or employee of Emergent Medical Associates or another health services provider that uses Pacific HealthWorks for healthcare management services, and you received a breach notice, or otherwise believe that you were potentially impacted by the data breach, please fill out the form below, and one of our attorneys will promptly contact you.
