Eskenazi Health Medical Data Breach – Class Action Investigation

November 19, 2021 by

Ahdoot & Wolfson is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Indianapolis-based Eskenazi Health following reports that a recent breach of its systems resulted in hackers accessing patient information.

Eskenazi Health, located in Indianapolis, recently revealed that the breach it first reported in August affected 1,515,918 patients’ information. The breach began on May 19, 2021 and lasted until August 4, 2021. The information was released on the dark web.

Information involved in the breach included: “name, date of birth, age, address, telephone number, email addresses, medical record number, patient account number, diagnosis, clinical information, physician name, insurance information, prescriptions, date(s) of service, driver’s license number, passport number, face photos, Social Security number, and credit card information. In the case of deceased patients, this information also may include cause of death and date of death.”

Eskenazi Health’s failure to protect sensitive patient information can expose patients to fraud and identity theft. These failures may violate consumer protection and privacy statutes.
