American Water Works Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Ahdoot & Wolfson is investigating a potential class action against American Water Works, the largest water utility in the United States, after it disclosed that it has been the subject of a cyberattack.
The Camden, New Jersey-based company disclosed it had learned of “unauthorized activity in our computer networks and systems” October 3, 2024, which it determined “to be the result of a cybersecurity incident.” It made a form 8-K disclosure with the SEC disclosing the incident.
American Water provides drinking water and wastewater services to more than 14 million people with regulated operations in 14 states and on 18 military installations.
American Water’s failure to protect sensitive customer personal information may violate state and federal law.
