Kronos Data Breach -Class Action Investigation

Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating potential class action lawsuits against HR management platform Kronos and certain of its customers following reports that Kronos recently suffered a massive ransomware attack that may have compromised confidential information of the customers, employees, and other affiliates of a number of Kronos’ high-profile software clients.

UKG, Kronos’ parent company, confirmed that it “recently became aware of a ransomware incident that has disrupted the Kronos Private Cloud,” which “houses solutions used by a limited number of our customers.” Following the attack, cybersecurity experts reported multiple messages from companies that are customers of Kronos that could no longer process payroll.

Kronos’ work management software is used by dozens of major corporations, local governments, and enterprises. The following have already reportedly been impacted by the breach:

• the City of Cleveland’s government
• Tesla
• Temple University
• Winthrop University Hospital
• Yeshiva University
• Clemson University

The Kronos breach likely divulged the sensitive information of customers or affiliates of Kronos’ clients. For example, the City of Cleveland has confirmed that the Kronos attack may have compromised employee information like names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and employee IDs.

While it is too early to understand the entire picture of the Kronos breach, it already appears that sensitive information of Kronos’ customers, like the City of Cleveland and others, has been or will be exposed, putting the persons whose information was exposed at risk of identity theft and fraud. 

The failure of Kronos and its software customers to protect and safeguard sensitive personal information may violate consumer protection and data privacy statutes, and other laws.
