Morgan Stanley StockPlan Connect Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Ahdoot Wolfson is interested in speaking with individuals who received a notice letter from Morgan Stanley confirming that their personal information was exposed during a recent data breach affecting Morgan Stanley’s StockPlan Connect.
The Morgan Stanley data breach is part of the larger, well-publicized breach involving a third-party file transfer vendor called Accellion. News of the Accellion breach broke in late 2020 after it was discovered that vulnerabilities in Accellion’s outdated file transfer software called the File Transfer Appliance (or FTA) were exposed by hackers, resulting in a breach of many Accellion clients.
Morgan Stanley has just confirmed that it was one of the Accellion clients impacted by the breach. As a result, Morgan Stanley has confirmed that certain of its StockConnect Plan clients have had their sensitive personal information exposed to cybercriminals. The exposed data reportedly includes names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.
Morgan Stanley’s failure to protect its customers’ sensitive personal information may be a violation of data privacy and consumer protection laws.
