MultiPlan Out-of-Network Services Reimbursement Suppression – Antitrust Class Action Lawsuit Investigation
Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating a potential antitrust class action lawsuit against healthcare data firm MultiPlan, Inc. and various health insurers that it partners with, following reports that MultiPlan and its partners engage in anti-competitive conduct to fix and suppress prices for reimbursement of out-of-network services provided by healthcare providers.
The alleged scheme may result in lower payments for out-of-network services, which has led to reduced reimbursement rates for providers. In addition to reducing reimbursements for providers, this reported practice also potentially affects quality and availability of out-of-network care. Insurers reportedly have reached agreements with MultiPlan to rely on its algorithmic rate-setting, which systematically keeps payments low and stymies competition in the healthcare services industry, specifically with respect to out-of-network care.
Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating whether these reported practices violate state and federal antitrust laws.
