Pacific HealthWorks Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Pacific HealthWorks (PHW) following a recently announced data breach.
PHW is located in El Segundo, California. Its physician group clients specialize in emergency room, critical and ICU care, hospitalized patients, anesthesia, and psychiatry, as well as physician assistants who handle medical electronic health records (EHR) for the doctors.
Per recent reports, the notorious Everest ransomware group posted PHW and its sister company La Perouse, another west coast healthcare management service organization (MSO), on its dark victim blog. Per Everest, “[b]illing data, as well as personal data of more than 50 organizations, will be published if the company does not contact us using the contacts below,” Everest claimed in a clear ransom threat and demand.
Public reports indicate that data samples from the breach have confirmed the inclusion of patient and employee information, such as:
- names
- birthdates
- Social Security numbers
- addresses
- phone numbers
- insurance records
- medical and billing records
- other demographic information
Pacific HealthWorks’ reported failure to protect sensitive information may violate consumer protection and privacy laws.
