McLaren Health Care Data Breach – Class Action Investigation

Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating a class action lawsuit against Michigan-based McLaren Health Care after it announced that it experienced a ransomware attack affecting approximately 2.5 million people.

In a statement, the health system said some of the data may have been leaked to the dark web. The breach was discovered in late August 2023, and following an investigation, in late September 2023 the ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware group took credit for the attack.

McLaren Health Care’s failure to protect sensitive information may violate state and federal laws, including privacy laws.

Given the enormity of this breach, it is likely that most patients of McLaren have been impacted.
