AW Achieves Final Approval of $62M Google Location History Settlement
Ahdoot Wolfson, serving as co-lead class counsel, won final approval of a $62 million class settlement with Google in a case arising from Google’s storage and use of consumers’ location information on mobile devices. Most of the cash fund, after deducting what the Court approved for attorneys’ fees and expenses, service awards to the named plaintiffs, and settlement administration, will be distributed to a Court-approved selection of non-profit organizations throughout the nation, who will utilize the proceeds to further consumer privacy interests in technology.
In addition to the $62 million settlement fund, Google agreed to alter its location storage settings to better notify and make it easier for consumers to control how Google collects location history on your mobile devices. This historic tech privacy settlement comes after nearly six years of hard-fought litigation between the parties. For more information, you can visit the settlement website here.
