Universal Music Group Recording Artist Royalties – Class Action Investigation

May 15, 2021 by

Ahdoot Wolfson is interested in speaking with recording artists who are under contracts with Universal Music Group (UMG) for licensing and distribution of their musical and other artistic works. We are investigating allegations that UMG may fail to pay artists all of the royalties to which they are entitled under these contracts.

UMG is one of the world’s largest music companies, and owns or has a large ownership stake in numerous major labels, including Abbey Road Studios, Capitol Music Group, Def Jam Recordings,EMI, Interscope Records, Geffen, AM Records, Island Records, Motown, Polydor, and Virgin.

Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating reports that UMG is uniformly failing to honor its contracts with recording artists. Specifically, UMG reportedly fails to pay all royalties due under its contracts relating to its revenues derived from international streaming of its artists works. UMG may be taking an initial percentage off of the top of this revenue and basing royalties on the remainder, thereby improperly watering down the royalty amount to artists. This conduct may be in breach of UMG’s contracts and violate other laws.

If you are a recording artist under contract with Universal Music Group for the license and distribution of your artistic works, and you believe UMG may be paying you less than all of the royalties to which you are entitled, the lawyers at Ahdoot Wolfson are interested in hearing your story and can arrange a confidential attorney consultation.
