Volkswagen Software Update Defect – Class Action Investigation

Ahdoot Wolfson is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Volkswagen following widespread reports of defective over-the-air (OTA) software updates that have caused significant malfunctions and costly repairs in various Volkswagen models.

Owners of affected Volkswagen vehicles, including models like the 2021 Jetta and others from recent years, report that installing a manufacturer-pushed software update triggered cascading failures. These include disabling key safety features (such as dashboard warnings and alerts), bricking or repeatedly rebooting the infotainment system, loss of functionality in connected systems like CarPlay/Android Auto, and other electronic glitches. In one prominent case, an owner faced a $1,600 repair bill from the dealership after the update, with limited options for coverage.

Multiple owners across models (including ID.4, Golf GTI, and others) have described similar patterns of post-update issues, with dealerships sometimes acknowledging widespread problems but declining full responsibility, especially outside warranty periods. Reports indicate that OTA updates, intended to improve vehicles, have instead led to “bricked” systems, extended downtime, and expensive module replacements or diagnostics.
